ActionAid Ghana (AAG) seeks to recruit a highly qualified and experienced professional in Policy and
Campaigns to support ActionAid Ghana and its national level partners in the development of the AAG’s overall policy and campaign work, as well as support the AAG policy and campaigns team, the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition, The Ark Foundation and the ABANTU for Development organisation, in regards to their overall national level policy and campaign work.

ActionAid Ghana is an Affiliate of ActionAid International, a global movement of people working together to achieve greater human rights for all and defeat poverty in over 45 countries. ActionAid Ghana’s mandate and expertise is in working with those who are poor and excluded as a way to overcome injustice and exclusion. AAG has a particular focus on women’s rights, education and food rights and climate change.

AA started in Ghana from 1990 and now works with close to Two Million people in 222 sponsorship communities in six regions of Ghana – namely: Upper East, Upper West, Northern, BrongAhafo, Greater Accra and Volta. The focus of AAG’s work ensures that the rights of excluded people and people living in poverty are respected, promoted and fulfilled and that state institutions become responsible in ensuring the rights of the citizenry.

The Policy and Campaigns Advisor is placed through the People4Change program; which is a people-to-people support programme providing capacity development support to ActionAid and her partner organisations.

Key result areas:
 • Work closely with Policy and Campaigns Manager to analyse gaps in the three policy priorities that AAG is working on.
• Work closely with Policy and Campaigns Manager to build the capacity of partners to be able to identify opportunities to channel AAG’s issues on the three policy priorities into the political agenda
• Work closely with Policy and Campaigns Manager to strengthen the capacity of staff in the development of guidelines to facilitate effective policy advocacy and campaign
• Support the capacity building of partners to develop indicators for monitoring and evaluating policy, advocacy and campaign work
• Three policy priorities of AAG analysed
• Gaps in policies the three national policy priorities that AAG works identified
• AAG regularly participate in policy debates at both the local and national level
• Two policy alternatives developed and advanced by strategic partners by Dec 2014
• 6 policy briefs based on AAG policy priorities developed and published in newspapers and internet by Oct 2014 • 20 Staff and partners trained in policy analysis by Sept 2014
• Guidelines for policy advocacy and campaign developed

Required qualifications:
 Master’s Degree in Social Sciences (Policy Analysis, Advocacy and Human Rights, Development Studies)
• Experience in working with women and poor peoples’ groups in a developing economy for not less than 5 years
 • Skills within: o Communication o Lobbying o Advocacy o Research o Coaching and mentoring o Strategy development o Capacity development skills
